This is the first service we offered at the mill, when Steve was working commercial construction thirty-five plus years ago he was sawing logs for clients on evenings and weekends. Before that my Grandpa designed and built our planner from another plainer and combine, yes you heard me right a combine. we also now have a resaw bandsaw as well as a sander.
What is custom sawing you ask, well good question. More conventional mills are sawing either giant orders for a company or they are milling material to sell to other mills, whole-sellers, or lumber yard's across the state or country, in other words, they don't typically deal with small orders like a tree down in a homeowners yards. Whereas that is the kind of milling we do here.
Yes, we do cut material for our own lumber yard to keep up on our own stock for furniture or other projects. However, the majority of sawing we do here is for customers and homeowners who want to turn that tree in their yard into more than firewood or wood chips.
We do not take down trees or even haul them away typically. What we will do is saw any log 6 feet or more with a diameter of 12 inches or more into whatever sizes you would like. We also can plain, join (edge plain), rip and sand that material to whatever dimensions you need. We are limited to 24 inches wide for plaining and sanding. We are however the only mill in the area to my knowledge that can plain timber's up to 24"x 24".
Re-sawing is when you have a timber or a "Kant" that you would like to cut into boards, or perhaps you just need it re-sawn into a particular size for your project up to 18 inches tall on the re-saw, however we don't recommend that. Something closer to 12 inches will yield much better results. If it is larger than that we may just put it on the circle mill.
